Frequently Asked Questions
Will our ironwork be made from ‘true’ wrought iron?
‘True’ wrought iron is very rare these days and is normally only used for restoration purposes. For iron gates and railings I work with the modern equivalent, which is steel (I have known it to be referred to as ‘weldable wrought iron’). Please see the ‘about us’ page for details.
Can you make stainless steel railings and balustrades?
Yes, I can fabricate and install stainless steel railings with glass panels, wires or bars which ever suits your particular needs.
Do you install all your commissions?
I have installed most of my commissions, but I am happy to supply only and allow you or your builder to install.
Can I have my ironwork powder coated?
Yes I can supply ironwork painted or powder coated.
Can I have my ironwork powder coated in a different colour to black?
Yes, although most ironwork is black you can have your ironwork powder coated all most any colour you chose.
How often will my ironwork need servicing or recoating?
Once painting starts to degrade it is important to recoat the ironwork. Powder coat lasts for many years and if it requires ‘touching’ up this is no problem as it does not react to ordinary metal paints.
If I accept your quote how long will I have to wait for my ironwork?
This depends on the size of the job but I normally work on a 6-8 week turn around time.
Do you require a deposit?
Due to the expense of the raw material I normally require a 50% deposit.
Can I have ironwork installed on old masonary?
Yes, normally old masonary is not a problem although I cannot guarantee the integrity of the masonary. I would recommend a specialist assess the suitability of the masonary for ironwork if the you are unsure.
